Four-column account of a banquet given by Dr A Barber, when he entertained some 200 gentlemen in the Temperance Hall prior to his departure for England. Members of Penrith Manchester Unity Lodge and St Marys Pride of the Forest United Ancient Order of Druids, besides the Mayor and other influential gentlemen of the town made up the party. It was an evening of eating and drinking, toasts and tributes followed by the presentation of an illuminated address to Dr Barber. The address which came from the house of John Sands of Sydney was beautifully illuminated, standing about three feet six inches high. Words of the address with its signatories are printed here - as are the various eulogies. Musical contributions are acknowledged. Of note, amid the praise bestowed on Dr Barber, was T R Smith's reference to Mrs Barber - 'a very useful member of society'.
