Construction of the Penrith rail bridge began in June 1904 when the foundation work was begun. It was completed in April 1906. Work on the superstructure began in March 1906 and was completed on 24 April 1907. It opened for trains on 2 June 1907. It was design by James Fraser and built by R. Tulloch.
