This title introduces HSC Year 11 students studying the Advanced English Module A: Narratives that shape our world course to the Machiavel as a narrative that has shaped, and continues to shape, our wold. The study provides students the opportunity to engage in a close study of the following texts: *Niccolo Machiavelli’s The Prince; *William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of King Lear; *Anthony Minghella’s film adaptation of The Talented Mr Ripley. By engaging in a close study of classic representations of the Machiavel as a tale of lies and deceit alongside a contemporary re-creation of this story, students will develop their knowledge of how the narrative has influenced the ways societies and cultures understand and characterise themselves.
