The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll Student Book is a study of Ray Lawler’s Australian play, along with several additional texts. It has been designed to fulfil the requirements of the NSW Stage 6 EAl/D Module B: Language, Identity and Culture. In order to develop their understanding of the relationship between language, identity and culture in literary texts, students will engage in an enjoyable and detailed study of the ways different authors use language to reflect and shape individual identity and cultural groups, before turning their attention to a close study of Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, which is designed to develop their knowledge of how language can be used to affirm or challenge beliefs about individuals and lifestyles, and social and cultural groups.
