The First Courthouse was constructed around 1817. It was said that it was opposite the hospital on High Street Penrith. In 1834 a fire destroyed it and a new one was built and opened in 1836. Heavy rains affected its condition and it is understood a third Courthouse was built in 1884 with its design created in 1882 by James Barnett. It was built on the site of the first guard house and depot constructed by William Cox in 1815. In April 1963, a new court house (4th) was constructed directly behind this old Courthouse facing onto Henry Street. The old building was demolished in June 1978 to make way for a new Regional Police station in Penrith, finished in 1981.
