To assist all community members to access our library branches and collections, the following assistive technology, accessibility equipment and facilities are available at all library branches:
Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA) - screen reader software which allows people who are blind or vision impaired to access and interact with the Windows operating system and many third-party applications on all public PCs.
Digital electronic magnifiers - desktop magnifier and document reader designed to assist people who are blind or vision impaired and people who experience reading difficulties. It can be used for magnifying small print, changing background and text colour and converting text to speech to read out aloud printed letters, forms, newspapers etc.
Large print keyboards - installed on multiple public PCs. These keyboards have oversized print that is four times larger than the print on a standard keyboard with high contrast enlarged black characters on yellow keys that further enhances the visibility of the keys.
Large trackball mouse - a mouse that includes a large trackball with two oversized buttons for left and right clicking which allows the user to easily move and position the mouse cursor on the computer screen while using fine or gross motor movements of the hand, arm, or foot.
Hearing loop - transfers sound direct to a hearing aid without background interference and is available at all library service desks, the Penrith library Theatrette, and the William Garner Room at St Marys library.
Height-adjustable study desks and desks for public PCs – the PCs on height-adjustable desks have an extra-large monitor and a large print keyboard.
