Governor, Sir Roden Cutler, officially opened Nepean College of Advanced Education in June 1977, having grown out of an expansion of Westmead Teachers College in 1973. It was then decided that a university was needed in Western Sydney, which intially carried the name Chifley University after Prime Minister Ben Chifley. The new university, which would incorporate the Nepean College of Advanced Education, would be eventually named University of Western Sydney. Redevelopment of the Werrington site began in May 1988. The committee are pictured at Werrington Park which would become the chancellery building and renamed Frogmore. Penrith City Council's Town Clerk, Barry Long is pictured in the doorway with local Federal member for Penrith, Ross Free on the verandah.
