St Mary Magdalene Church of England was built on land donated by Phillip Parker King. Designed by Francis Clarke, and built by James Atkinson, the church was strategically built on top of a hill overlooking the South Creek district. The foundation stone was laid on 22nd November 1837 by Bishop Broughton and the bricks were made on the King's Dunheved property. The church was opened in 1840.
