Alfred Colless was born in October 1851. He ran a general store as well as a real estate and auctioneering business. In 1882 he established the Nepean Times newspaper which ran from 1882 to 1962. He was a alderman on Penrith Municipal Council between 1876 and 1883 and served as Mayor between 1880 and 1882. He died in December 1920.
