Construction on the new Nepean Hospital began in 1952 and was opened in May 1956 with patients moving in, in June of the same year. The hospital has undergone major renovations and additions, adding many more medical services. The cancer care unit is one of the medical services added to the hospital. It is located on the northern side of the hospital complex, off Somerset Street.
