Celebrating the Centenary of Electricity, Station Street, Penrith

Mayor Faye Lo Po at the celebrations of the centenary of electricity to Penrith. The stage is situated at the corner of Station Street and Henry Street, Penrith outside Borec House. These dignitaries were part of a large crowd present to commemorate the centenary of the turning on of the electric light in Penrith. On Friday 3 October 1890, Penrith Municipal Council organised one of the largest and most meaningful public holidays in the town's history. On that day electric light was switched on in the town to 60 consumers. Penrith was the third town in New South Wales to make use of electricity, behind Tamworth and Young and the first in the Sydney region.
