Nepean CAE, had grown out of an expansion of Westmead Teachers College in 1973. The college was officially opened by Governor, Sir Roden Cutler in June 1977. Nepean CAE became an original network member of the University of Western Sydney on 1 January 1989. In August 2015 the university changed its name to Western Sydney University.
