St Thomas' Church of England at Mulgoa was built on land donated by Edward Cox, with leading men of the district such as Nathanial Norton, Reverend Thomas Hassell and the Cox brothers forming a committee to raise money to build the church. The district raised £900. The church was designed by James Chadley of Sydney with Robert Drysdale carrying out the stonework. James Atkinson and William Chisholm were responsible for the carpentry. The foundation stone was laid in 1836 by Jane Jamison, Sir John Jamison's fourteen year old daughter. Bishop Broughton consecrated St Thomas' on 13 September 1838.
