The Nepean Cottage Hospital was opened by Samuel Lees on 3 July 1895. The foundation stone for the operating theatre was laid on 11 May 1904 by the Lady Mayoress of Sydney, Mrs Samuel Lees. Designed by W Sykes, it opened a few months later. In 1926 the name of the hospital changed to Nepean District Hospital.
