This postcard depicts the different hospital buildings that have existed in Penrith up until 1956 when the new hospital opened at Kingswood. Penrith Hospital in 1880 was located in present day Cox Ave and was opened by the Penrith Dispensary and Benevolent Society in 1871. It closed in 1871 and the building was demolished after 1886. The building on the top right hand side is the second building to be used by the Nepean Cottage Hospital. Built originally as a residence, it was officially opened in March 1890 and operated until 1895, when a purpose built hospital was constructed in Glebe Place. This building is located at 318 High Street. The picture at the bottom of the left hand side is of Nepean Cottage Hospital which was offically opened on 3 July 1895 by Samuel Lees. The hospital closed in 1956 when a new hospital was constucted in Derby Street, Kingswood. The picture on the bottom right hand side is of the isolation ward. This postcard has a decorative embossed border.
