Designed and constructed by Joseph Sainsbury, Mimosa was built in 1894 for Andrew Thompson. Th house is built of stuccoed brickwork with a timber and cast iron verandah and balcony. At the time of its construction it was considered to be the most costliest in the area. As a fine example of late Victorian architecture it was classified by the National Trust in 1980.
