John Page established his Saylehurst tannery on this site prior to 1857. It was later taken over by James Farrell. In 1902 it was taken over by Anshau and became known as Tanners & Blucher Boot Manufacturers. The tannery finally closed in 1918. There is little extant evidence of the tannery, but a brick barn used to store hides remains at the end of Pages Road.
