Construction on the Victoria Bridge began around 1864 and completed in 1867. It began operation as a rail bridge only with road traffic being punted across the river by ferry. The bridge opened to road traffic in 1869 when the timber span was replaced by an iron span. This postcard depicts the southern view of the river. This postcard bears a 1penny New South Wales postage stamp. Postcard is postmarked Penrith and sent to Miss E M Gornall. 299 Russell Street, Bathurst.
