This building was part of the Saylehurst tannery established by John Page on this site in 1856. Between 1866 and 1888 the property was owned or leased by a succession of tanners, Thomas Alcock and Joseph Davenport, John While, Francis McNab, Mr Hasfall and James Farrell. In 1888 the property was sold to Frederick Clissold and became known as the Colonial Tannery. In 1901 Joseph and Lewis Anschau bought the property and established a boot factory where they produced shoe leather and blucher boots. In 1911 Patrick Meare established Margaret Farm on the site. This barn and a small cottage in Pages Road are the only buildings remaining.
