The first weir was constructed using sandbags to create a bank 13 feet wide by 300 feet long and 3 feet 6 inches high. This weir was eventually washed away to be replaced by a concrete one. The concrete weir was built by the Department of Works and was opened in 1909, where it became a popular spot for swimming and picnicing. This was photograph was taken looking west towards Emu Plains. The area on the Emu Plains side of the weir became known as Little Manly.
