St Marys Post Office is the building on the right. It was built in 1899. The timber buildings to the left were built after World War 2 for the Commonwealth Bank which had previously operated from the post office. The four telephone booths at the front of this white building faced the Great Western Highway. The first manager of the bank was Allan Heathershaw. The building would be later used as the sorting room for the post office. The post office was vacated in December 1965 when new premises were completed in Queen Street. The building would become the St Marys Community Arts Centre. These buildings were later demolished and Astley Centre was built on the corner of Mamre Road and the Great Western Highway.
