Winbourne was own by George Cox and remained in the Cox family until 1901 when the property was sold to Peter Hewitt. He leased the property to the Hore family who ran the house Winbourne as a guest house. By 1914 Winbourne was leased to Tom Campbell who turned the property in a holiday resort. He was still leasing the property in August 1920 when the house was destroyed by fire.
