There is some conjecture as to the origins of these cottages. It was thought that they were built for the daughters of William Bennett. According to a Bennett family member the houses were constructed from left over stone used in the building of James Bennett's house Bronte. The houses became homes for some of the workers from the wagon works and later by some members of the Bennett family. They were originally identical with late Victorian detailing, featuring elaborate barge boards, stucco window moulding and vermiculated quoins.
