This monument was erected to mark the 125th anniversary of the first crossing of the Blue Mountains by Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth. The Nepean Times recorded that the design was by architect A. M. Hodgson, the builder was C. M. Arnold and the masonary was supplied by Melocco Brothers from Penrith.
