McCarthy Cemetery was established by early settler James McCarthy, who set aside part of his land for the burial of his daughter Elizabeth in 1806. The land was consecrated as a cemetery by Bishop Bede Poling in 1835. It is now located within the Penrith Lakes Scheme. Henry York came to the colony in 1816 on the ship Fame.
