Construction of the Wallacia Weir was completed in May 1912 with the christening of the weir taking place on 10 May. Locals celebrated with a large picnic and those making speeches praised the Wallacia Progress Association for their hard work in campaigning for the building of the weir. It soon became a popular place for fishing and swimming.
