Mamre is an early Georgian homestead, built in the 1820's on land owned by the Reverend Samuel Marsden. It was believed to have been a wool store before it was converted to a homestead. It remained in the Marsden family until 1839 when it was acquired by the Rouse family and later the Fitzgerald family. The land was taken over by the Department of Environment and Planning in 1975 and in 1985, following restoration of the house, the Sisters of Mercy took over the lease and began the Mamre Project which was funded by government grants. In mid 2014 the lease for Mamre was handed over to CatholicCare Social Services Parramatta Diocese
