Between 1814 and 1816, the colony of NSW suffered a drought, and food became scarce for Aborigines and settlers alike. In response to some attacks by Aborigines early in 1816, Governor Macquarie ordered out three punitive expeditions to capture and kill Aborigines who had been involved.
