The council chambers, built in 1881 was made of brick on stone foundations and roofed with galvanized iron with 'Alfred Colless, Mayor' above the door. It was designed by David McBeath and built by Thomas Clissold. The building was demolished in 1964. Pictured beside the Department of Main Roads truck, left to right are: council employee Clyde Mitchell leaning on the truck; Deputy Town Clerk Bertie Field; Town Clerk Ernie Orth;. Health inspector Joe Elliott is pictured on the horse. Photographer name is located at the bottom right corner: J Fay 20 Piper Street Leichhardt
