View looking west from the intersection of High and Station Streets. The Penrith Centre can be seen on the left with the Waltons store on the right. Penrith Centre was developed in two stages in 1978 and 1981. The completed centre was officially opened in August 1981. The centre included a tavern, twin cinemas, a Venture store and 40 speciality shops. In 1994 the centre was damaged by fire. Waltons had been in a small shop near Lawson Street, before moving into two floors of the newly completed Borec House in 1971. The store remained in Borec House until this building, on the corner of High and Station Street was built, opening in 1973. The store closed in 1995 and became a Spotlight store.
