The Lapstone Hotel was built on the site of Logie, the residence of John Lucas, The hotel was designed as a two-storey U-shaped building, and was painted white in sharp contrast to the natural colours of the surrounding countryside. In 1949 the Lapstone Hill Hotel was offered to the Royal Australian Air Force for use as a headquarters building for the then Eastern Area, and the property was acquired on 1 September 1949.
