Built by William Watkins and Peto, Brassey and Betts, the Nepean Railway and Road Bridge was completed in June 1867. The flood of 1867 severely damaged the western side and following its repair the bridge was opened only to rail traffic with road traffic being punted across the river. In 1883 an iron fence was constructed to partition the train and road traffic. By the 1880's the bridge had become known as Victoria Bridge. The writing on the bottom of the image suggests this was a postcard.
