Built in 1828, Woodford Academy was originally built as an inn and from 1907-1936 was used as a school. It has also served as a guest house and private hospital. The property has gone under other names, including, Woodman's Inn, King's Arms Inn, Woodford Apartments, Buss's Apartments, Woodford House, Academy School.
National Trust was gifted the property in 1979 from Gertrude McManamey. It is now a museum open to the public.
