Heart necklace on statue at Pike's Produce Store

The first known location of the woman and child statue was in the alcove in the centre of Pike's Produce Store at 556-558 High Street Penrith. Store is still standing in 2020 with a business called "Workin' Gear". This family statue has been enjoyed by five generations of Pike and Hargreaves families and has been situated in four different locations. This statue appears to be made of concrete. Both the figures are barefoot and stand on a concrete base. The woman measures 1.7 centimetres in height and the child is 50 centimetres high. At its widest circumference it is 99 centimetres. The woman has downcast eyes, while the child’s eyes are fully open and appear to be looking into the distance. The statue has some interesting features. The woman has a heart necklace around her neck and she is holding this with her left hand. Her right hand is resting on top of the child’s head. The woman has long hair wound around her head and extending down her back. visible around the neck and through the hair at the back of the statue. Several layers of white paint cover the statue and in a few areas the paint is peeling off. The woman’s dress is of classical design, reaching to her feet. It has a collar, featuring a button at the neckline. It has a fitted waist, with the effect of folded material over the hips. The child’s dress is shorter, extending just to her knees. The statue relocated to Jan Chiver's grandparents’ garden at 46 Lemongrove Road Penrith (currently a solicitor’s office). It then re-located to Jan's parent’s home at 4 Colless Street, Penrith. Again it was re-located, this time to the home of Jan's grand daughter, Emma Atkinson (nee Chivers) at 4 Dural Street, Kenthurst, where it remains today.
