The historic Castlereagh cemetery is understood to be one of the oldest undisturbed graveyards in Australia. It houses many early pioneers and members of the First Fleet. This bush cemetery contains at least 64 monuments, however depressions in the ground suggest there are many unmarked graves scattered throughout. Records show the first burial occurred in 1811. The ownership of this cemetery has been officially transferred to Penrith City Council. This photograph shows graves of Elizabeth and Anthony Rope, pioneers of Castlereagh.
