The bridge was constructed by David Lennox, Sub-Inspector of Roads and was completed by July 1833. The bridge continued to be used until December 1962, when the bridge had became structurally unsafe and could no longer be used. In December 1982, Lennox Bridge was re-opened to single flow traffic.
