The Museum of Fire is the first and only Museum in the world to examine the totality of fire. The Official opening had the performance of The Muse of Fire, commissioned by the Museum of Fire with financial assistance from the Music Board of the Australia Council. The Muse of Fire celebrates the life and work of Andrew Toring (1814-1900). He came to Sydney in 1842. He and his actress wife, Eliza, worked at the Victoria Theatre. Toring organised the Sydney Volunteer Fire Company as an assurance against fire. Julian Faigan proposed the idea of linking Toring's twin muses of Fire and Theatre with the official opening of the museum in 1987.
