Fernhill was built by Edward Cox and completed in 1842. It appears to have been originally designed as a two storey building however it was never added to due to the 1840's recession. It is picturesquely sited, overlooking the surrounding countryside and is believed to be possibly the finest extant of Greek Revival temple house in New South Wales. It remained in the Cox family until 1885 when it was sold.
