William George Jordan, a train driver purchased a block of land from Woodriff in 1877, built a house and later the Tattersalls Hotel in 1889. He was also on the Council, however he had to relinquish that position as employees were not to hold such jobs. He leased the hotel to Charles Amos Messenger, a champion sculler. Many rowing club meetings were held at the Tattersalls Hotel. William Jordan stated the hotel was not to be sold until his last child died. The last of the four children was Mary Morrison who was licensee from 1938-1955. It was renovated in 1922 and again in 1939 when the ornate verandas were removed. It was promoted as a sportsman's hotel. The hotel was demolished in 1980. It then became the Penrith Shopping Square, however the hotel is part of the Square with entrance on Station Street with Tattersalls signage on the building.
