General notes:
James Rutledge arrived in Castlereagh in 1840. He was employed as a school teacher, but he was also a lay preacher. In order to combine these two responsibilities, the church was built first and was opened in 1847. The church is on 312 Old Castlereagh Road, Castlereagh. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999 and remains the oldest Wesleyan church in Australia. (Wikipedia 2023)
