St Stephen's School appears to have originated in Henry Street, Penrith by 1838, as the Church of England school. It was known as the Girl's Grammar School when it moved to High Street opposite St Stephen's Anglican Church. Later it was known as Ladies College, and finally, named St Stephen's School (around 1906). In 1917, it moved into the building adjacent to St Stephens Church. From 1932, with small numbers, students were schooled in Miss Lennox's home, situated towards the end of High Street, opposite the original Penrith Plaza. The school closed down due to the death of Miss Vida Lennox, retirement of Miss Edith (Edie) Lennox, and lack of student numbers by 1945.
