The Late Heavy Rains

The terrible storm that passed over the state on Sunday night has left appalling tales to tell that will not be forgotten for years to come. Some of those tales are recounted here, including how our district fared. The velocity of the water coming from the several rivers running into the Nepean was so great that in 12 hours the river had risen over 50 feet. The amount of debris rushng down the racing stream was truly lamentable to witness: shoals of pumpkins, intermixed pellmell with timber and all sorts of property, and towering above all, came sailing upon the turbulent waters, two haystacks. Other tales of devastation recorded here.
