Early on Tuesday morning the body of James Peckham, more familiarly known as 'Smashem', was found in the rear of Moseley's Strangers' Home Hotel. We believe he was 75 years of age when he came to Mr Moseley three months age, in a pretty well exhausted condition. Dr Brady and the Coroner were of the opinion that death had resulted from cerebral haemorrhage and congestion of the brain. 'Smashem' will be greatly missed, having been knocking around St Marys and district for upwards of 50 years - the oldest resident cannot tell how much longer. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, when about half-a-dozen old friends followed his remains to their last resting place in the general cemetery. Further information on aspects of his life and the circumstances of his death.
