A General Cemetery

Articles
Account of a public meeting, convened by the Mayor, re a suitable site for a general cemetery for Penrith. The two sites discussed were a large area of some 40 acres, available at Castlereagh, adjoining the old Church of England Cemetery, and a recent offer from the Government to purchase 12 acres of the York Estate, adjoining St John's R C Cemetery. Several other sites were discussed, (even a crematorium suggested), but the matter was not resolved. Finally it was decided to appoint a Committee to select a suitable site, or sites, and report to an adjourned meeting a fortnight hence.
