Forty years of stockpiled radioactive waste from the nuclear research facility at Lucas Heights, more than 1320 cubic metres, is set to hit Penrith roads - The 132 trucks laden with low level & intermediate waste could be moved 1580km through more than 30 towns along the Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains - The waste is destined for a repository in South Australia with a draft environmental impact statement indicating two possible routes, the Hume Highway through Yass or the Great Western Highway through Katoomba.
