The proposed Hospital Ball and the Children's Plain and Fancy Dress Ball has spurred Arthur C Ward to write this wordy letter to the Editor of the Nepean Times. He begins his argument by saying that 'an institution for the remedy of physical ailments should not be supported at the expense of character and 'sick' morals'. His reasons for denouncing the Children's Ball are made clear. As for dancing in general, he informs us that he has knowledge of dancing in almost all its phases, and that 'participation in public dancing blunts the finer and more desirable qualities of human nature, even where it does not lead to flagrant sin (but to which it often does lead)'.
