A fire occurred here about 3 o'clock Saturday morning last, when a weatherboad house, belonging to and occupied by Mrs J Paul, was burnt to the ground. It is believed that the fire was started by some rats getting to some matches that were kept in a drawer. There was plenty of help to save the furniture, with the result that it was practically all saved with the exception of that in the room in which the fire started. The building contained seven rooms, and in the old days used to be a public house. It was uninsured, and is, therefore, a heavy loss to the owner. Mrs Paul is now residing with some of her relatives at Valley Heights.
