William Luxford was charged with the wilful murder of William James Luxford, aged 13, at Colyton on 1st November 1876. He also murdered his other two sons George, aged 6 or 7, and Alfred aged 3 or 4. He cut their throats while they slept and then gave himself up to the police. Details of the crime and the subsequent trial are contained in the article. William Luxford was acquitted on the grounds of insanity.
