This fascinating article relates Nepean Times' encounter with this French gentleman, who left Paris February, 1895, and is to visit every country during a certain time. Conditions placed on him include that he walk wherever possible, and when he is to travel by steam boat, he should work his passage. He is to accept no money, except for lectures or work done, ask for no assistance and carry no change of clothing, but to wear the one suit through each country. Article reports 'we had a lengthy chat with Gilbert on Saturday afternoon, and had him quartered at Tattersall's Hotel until Sunday morning. We went with him to R Suzor's, where he was most hospitably received. Here too we had a splendid chat, for Gilbert spoke in his own langugage to Mr Suzor and that gentleman translated as he went along'.
