Lengthy coverage, exceeding three columns, is given to this much talked-of cricket match between the Old Buffers of the district. Geo T Bennett and W Charker captained the rival teams, (names supplied) which onlookers greeted with great enthusiasm. After the match players adjourned to the Volunteer Hotel to enjoy themselves in quite a different manner. Here they were regaled with everything both liquid and solid, toasts were proposed, cigars handed round and then, in the true style of the times, several songs were given by various members of the company.
